The Auto Color Library

“Where Yesterday’s Colors Come Alive Today”

TCP Global is home to the world’s largest online automotive paint color reference the Auto Color Library. This archive holds original OEM color standard chips for nearly every car make and model dating back to 1900, and even earlier with color references for carriages and coaches.

Whether you’re restoring a classic from the 1930s or matching a rare vintage import, the Auto Color Library provides both visual reference data and the coatings needed to bring restoration projects to life.

It includes rare and discontinued colors for legendary vehicles like Hudson, Nash, Willys, Packard, Edsel, and Hupmobile, plus interior, stripe, trim, and accent references.

Inside the Library Room

Preserving Automotive Color History

Located at TCP Global’s Las Vegas headquarters, the Auto Color Library Room is a carefully curated archive of authentic automotive color history. Inside, you’ll find original paint cans, historic spray guns, vintage mixing tools, and color chips cataloged like rare books.

This collection represents more than 50 years of research and gathering from paint manufacturers, retired industry reps, international travel, and classic car swap meets. It includes historic standards from the days of varnishes, Japan lacquers, and early enamels.

Jimmy “Chips” Wells

Jim Wells — better known as “Chips” has been a cornerstone of the automotive coatings industry since the 1950s. A former top sales rep for PPG Ditzler and owner of multiple paint supply stores throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he has dedicated decades to preserving and curating the Auto Color Library.

His lifetime of knowledge and passion for automotive history helped make the Auto Color Library the global resource it is today.
