I want to start this review with the fact that I bought this paint before doing enough research on spraying metallic colors, and before discovering that even professionals tend to prefer base/clear for any sort of metallic... and I can see why. It's tricky! Spraying the metallic even enough to not have striping but heavy enough to have a low amount of orange peel is very challenging, especially for a novice painter. I sprayed a few coats and then did a mist coat while the last coat was wet to remove some of the striping and it seemed to work pretty well. I did, however, get LOADS of orange peel and being SS metallic, it is not recommended to wetsand and buff. In the future, I may spray clearcoat over the SS and then buff out what I can, but for now I'm very stoked on the results for this being my first ever paint job.
This product is stated to be mixed 4:1 ratio, but I began having issues with my compressor setup (which is admittedly too small) being able to keep pressure up enough to get a good spray pattern - the gun tip was a 1.4, I suspect a larger tip may also have helped. I ended up reducing the paint 1 extra part (4:1:1) with Nason 85 degree solvent and it sprayed much better and had no adverse effects on the paint. The data sheet did not say you could do that, but I did it anyway and it worked out fine for me (I tested a small batch on a test panel before spraying the car).
Overall, very happy with the paint, the color, and the pricing and quality of TCP Global's…
